Puppetry
There are many forms of puppetry. There are Hand Puppets where you put the puppet on your hand and control it by moving your wrist, fingers and whole arm. There is another style of puppets that we do called Bunraku. This style features a puppet that is controlled by 2 or more people. These people are dressed all in black and can be seen in front of the stage. This style works because the audience's attention is focused on the puppet, and not the puppeteers.
Hand puppets are our primary focus. Our puppets perform to either skits or songs. Since we are a Christian Puppet Ministry, all our songs and skits will have a christian meaning behind them. The skits can be pre-recorded or "live" meaning that the puppeteer is actually reading the part, and acting it out with a puppet.
The part that is the most fun is doing puppets to songs. We take popular christian songs and then have the puppets sing them. We even make the puppets dance to the music. To make the songs more interesting, we add props. These are usually signs made out of foam-core board that have posterboard words or pictures pasted on them. These props will be used to emphasize points in the song or to simply add something to look at during a section of the song when the puppets arent doing much.
Of course we don't stop there. We also add special effects to the songs. These range from flashing lights to confetti cannons. The special effect that we use the most is blacklight. Blacklight is UV light that is hard to see. However, it makes fluorescent colors glow. We have special puppets that are made of fluorescent fabric, so they will glow in blacklight. Most props we make are made on black foam-core with fluorescent pictures and words, so it looks like the words and pictures are just floating in space.
